Las Vegas authorities confirmed Tuesday they have served a search warrant connected with the unsolved murder of rapper Tupac Shakur 27 years ago.
Shakur was 25 when he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. He was shot multiple times and died nearly a week later.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the warrant was executed in Henderson, Nevada, about 15 miles from Las Vegas, on Monday, The Associated Press said. But the department provided no details, including what they were looking for and whether a suspect had been identified.
Shakur was in a black BMW with Marion “Suge’ Knight, head of Death Row Records, when he was shot. The two were at a red light near the Strip when a white Cadillac pulled up alongside them and gunfire erupted.
Investigators have said the investigation has been stymied by uncooperative witnesses.
The shooting came in the midst of a feud between Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G., who was fatally shot six months later.

Shakur is considered one of the most influential rappers of all time, with six Grammy nominations and five Number 1 albums.
He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 and got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier this year.
