Spit on Sidewalk Leads to Arrest in 36-Year-Old Cold Case Murder of Massachusetts Woman

A Utah man has been charged with murder after his infant son died three days after being brought to a hospital unresponsive and not breathing.

Armando Valenzuela, 24, called 911 with the report about his month-old son on March 14, KSL reported. Dispatch gave him instructions for CPR while first responders headed to the home.

The child was brought to Primary Children’s Medical Center by medics and died on March 17. Doctors there found multiple bone fractures in various stages of healing, retinal hemorrhaging, brain bleeding, and a weak pulse, according to KSTU.

An arrest affidavit says that Valenzuela told officers that the boy became fussy, so he went to get his bottle from the kitchen, according to KSL. The child screamed louder while he was gone went limp, he said, when he came back and picked him up.

An autopsy found hemorrhaging, rib fractures, and head trauma in various stages of healing.

The boy’s mother was not at the house at the time, the affidavit said. She told police that the infant frequently screamed loudly whenever he was alone with Valenzuela, who denied doing anything to the boy.

The mother said the child had no health concerns but would get fussy during diaper changes.

Valenzuela has been charged with murder and aggravated child abuse.
