New warrants reveal what investigators believe happened to Georgia mother Aimee Lafakis, who was found deceased earlier this month, allegedly at the hands of a former boyfriend.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Brandon Wineinger stands accused of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault for Lafakis’ death. Warrants obtained by 11Alive News indicate that the defendant is accused of “unlawfully and with malice aforethought caused the death of Aimee Lafakis, a human being, by blunt force trauma to the head and asphyxia.”
Police said Wineinger killed Lafakis on September 29 at some point between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Officials with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office confirmed earlier this month that Lafakis was found deceased off of Gwinnett County’s Drowning Creek Road.
Lafakis’ best friend, Faith Corbin told 11Alive News that Lafakis was a “fiercely loyal” friend who once helped her out of a similar issue involving domestic violence.

“She was going through some tough times we had talked about it,” Corbin said. “Aimee was the one to get me out of the same situation she was in just with someone else, so it hit extremely close to home. I believe she felt she had this taken care of.”
“It literally makes my stomach hurt to know that this guy took her and discarded her like she was trash and she was alone by herself for days and were out looking for her and that’s the hardest part because Aimee would never ever ever let that happen to anyone else.
“I think a lot of people think that this can’t happen to them or they’ll be able to get out of the situation soon enough, Take this story into consideration that it could be you, you could be next.”
