$15K Reward Offered After 90-Year-Old Navy Veteran Killed in Broad Daylight

Houston police announced Wednesday the arrest of a man accused of killing a 90-year-old veteran.

According to ABC 13, police arrested 21-year-old Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux on Tuesday, charging him with capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence. Investigators did not explain what led to his arrest.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police said Nelson Beckett was shot and killed on Saturday outside of the Lone Star Living assisted living facility on Westbrae Parkway, near South Gessner and West Bellfort. Arceneaux  allegedly stole Beckett’s vehicle, beat him and struck him with the car while fleeing.

Officers later recovered Beckett’s vehicle less than three miles from the crime scene, according to KHOU.

“Cases like this have a tendency to galvanize the entire city, the entire county, the entire state,” Andy Kahan with Houston Crime Stoppers said. “At the age of 90, he was contributing to the community and trying to help people in the best way you possibly can and have your life end in this fashion not on our watch.”

Arceneaux allegedly approached Beckett in the parking lot, had a brief conversation, and then pistol-whipped him before stealing the car. Authorities found Beckett with gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Arceneaux had no criminal record in Harris County but was out on bond for a 2021 evading arrest charge in Fort Bend County. A day before the murder, Arceneaux had agreed to plead guilty to the evading charge.
