UPDATE: AMBER Alert Suspect Headed to Mexico With 2 Daughters After Killing Girlfriend

An AMBER Alert was issued on Wednesday in California, where a man allegedly killed his girlfriend and abducted their two daughters.

On Tuesday, Jonathan Maldonado-Cruz, 23, reportedly fatally shot his girlfriend in Hanford and fled with Alana and Arya Maldonado, ages 2 and 3. Maldonado-Cruz and the two children were missing when a welfare check was conducted at the residence and the woman was found deceased, as CrimeOnline reported.

Officials believe Maldonado-Cruz is heading to or in Mexico. KCRA reported that he has no prior criminal history.

Alana Maldonado was described as weighing 25 pounds and having brown eyes and brown hair weighing 25 pounds, while Ayra Maldonado was said to weigh 20 pounds and have brown hair and brown eyes. It is unclear what they were wearing.

Maldonado-Cruz was described as standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 215 pounds, and having black hair and black eyes. Kings County police could not provide a clothing description.

Police said they are searching for a 2020 gray Hyundai Elantra with California license plate reading 8LZD084.
