Two brothers went on a crime spree involving murder and robbery as they traveled across Missouri, intending to buy methamphetamine in Oklahoma.
Fox News Digital reports that Adin Aman Cantarero Benitez, 26, and his brother, Jose Cantarero Benitez, 20, allegedly began their criminal journey on September 16.
Adin Aman Cantarero Benitez approached Jesse Gilmore, 63, at the Road Ranger gas station in Jasper County, Missouri. After exchanging a few words, he allegedly shot Gilmore. Police said he then met his brother behind the gas station.
Adin Aman Cantarero Benitez drove Gilmore’s stolen vehicle while sitting on Gilmore, who was still in the driver’s seat, according to KSHB.
The brothers later dumped Gilmore’s body in a ditch at mile marker 14.8 on I-44, KZRG reported.
The brothers then drove to Independence, Missouri, one driving Gilmore’s car and the other a blue Toyota Tundra pickup, Fox News reported.
Adin Aman Cantarero Benitez was arrested for DWI on September 17. Law enforcement later learned about his alleged involvement in the previous day’s incident.
Jose Cantarero Benitez allegedly continued on and attempted to carjack a woman, leaving her in critical condition with gunshot wounds to her chest and left forearm, in Hill Park on September 17. Law enforcement found her next to her gray Toyota Tacoma, which Jose Cantarero Benitez had been unable to start.
Jose Cantarero Benitez was later caught after police received a report of a prowler in Kansas City, Missouri. He tried to flee but was apprehended, KSHB reported.
Adin Aman Cantarero Benitez faces charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and first-degree robbery. Jose Cantarero Benitez is awaiting official charges.
Both brothers are reportedly in the country illegally and originally from Honduras, according to Fox News Digital.
