Spit on Sidewalk Leads to Arrest in 36-Year-Old Cold Case Murder of Massachusetts Woman

A New York man in Miami, Florida, attacked several unhoused individuals, killing two.

On Thursday around 6 a.m., Brenton Clarke, 36, from Inwood, New York, assaulted four unhoused people, according to WLRN.

WLRN reported that Clarke was seen walking down the streets of Miami with a stick, beating those living there, as noted in a 911 call.

Clarke first attacked a man near a train station in downtown Miami. He then continued down the street and assaulted another unhoused man. Next, he crossed the street and attacked a couple, according to Miami Police Chief Manny Morales.

NBC New York reported that, according to officials, the multiple dead at the scene, while two others were transported to a nearby trauma center.

“This is a horrible incident,” Morales said. “The officers on the scene and the Miami Police Department are appalled at this display of unprovoked violence.”

Ron Book, chair of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, described the violent attack as “tragic” and “senseless,” according to WLRN.

“The murder of at least two members of our unhoused community and the hospitalization of two others is tragic,” he said in a statement.

“While we grieve the senseless loss of these lives, the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust remains committed and determined to get every person off the streets and into safe housing.”

Clarke is being held at the Miami-Dade jail without bond. He faces two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and armed robbery with a deadly weapon.
