A woman accused of fatally shooting a toddler and leaving another woman in critical condition late Friday afternoon has surrendered to police.

WREG said the shooting took place at an apartment complex in North Memphis at about 5 p.m.

Police said the women knew each other and that the suspect fled in a gray Infiniti, but later turned herself in.

The 18-month-old baby girl was pronounced dead on the scene, WHBQ reported.

Investigators have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect or said how they were related with one another.

Police also did not say what led to the shooting, but a Memphis police spokesperson said, “We need to do better.”

“We have to be better about conflict resolution,” he said. “There is no reason for a baby to be dead tonight because adults couldn’t do right by one another.”
