A Texas toddler is in critical condition and a daycare worker has been charged with injury to a child after police and emergency medical personnel were called to a Harlingen daycare on Thursday.
In a statement on Saturday, Harlingen Police said the 15-month-old girl was “unresponsive” when they arrived, and an officer began CPR until medics arrived to take over. The little girl was taken to a hospital.
Belinda Perez, 30, was taken into custody and later charged, although police did not provide information about what happened.
Perez was arraigned on Friday and given a $750,000 bond. If she bonds out, she will wear GPS monitor and has other conditions assigned to keep her away from any daycare or children.
Police said the investigation was ongoing and that the daycare owners were cooperating.
In a statement on Instagram, the daycare said the “incident was recorded on video and promptly reviewed by the police at our facility.”
“We extend our deepest apologies to the affected familyand to all families at the Little Red Schoolhouse,” the statement said. “We are devasted and deeply upset by what has happened. This incident is not reflective of who we are or the standards we uphold.”
