Chongya Weldon (Champaign Police Department).
When cops arrested Chongya Weldon on Sept. 20 for allegedly throwing water at a man’s face, her sarcasm managed to outweigh her outburst of curse words.
“I love it, this is so amazing!” she said as three officers handcuffed her on the patio of her home. “Get off my f—ing hair!”
Several days before, on Sept. 14, a man running a plant shop told cops in Champaign, Illinois, that the defendant threw water at him. Officers tracked Weldon down on Sept. 20, confronting her with the allegation.
She questioned why they were there.
“I’m just here to talk to you about it,” an officer answered.
They soon told her to step outside.
She refused. “No,” she repeated, crying.
“I am not f—ing doing this!” she said.
She claimed that the man was the actual assailant. However, in body camera footage, the alleged victim provided officers with the names of two customers as witnesses to his water-throwing claim.
During the Sept. 20 confrontation with police, Weldon claimed the arrest was “unlawful” and that officers were hurting her.
“Stop resisting,” the officer answered.
“For throwing a cup of water?” she answered, incredulous.
“And kneeing me in the groin,” the officer said.
“Oh, because I’m being f—ing assaulted by you now,” she said. “Everybody gets to f—ing assault me, and I’m getting to go to jail. This is so amazing. I love my life. I love this f—ing community. You guys are so good at doing your f—ing jobs.”
“You’re welcome to move,” an officer said.
“I will. Don’t f—ing worry,” she said.
They eventually placed her in a police vehicle.
“Do you guys take everyone who pours water on people to jail?” she said. “Can I have the statistics of that?”
“It’s battery,” an officer answered.
“It’s not,” she retorted. “Can I have your f—in–”
The officer then shut the door on her.
Record records show that Weldon is charged with resisting an officer. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16, 2025.
