Tennessee Man Charged With Killing Teen He Found in Bed With His Wife

A Tennessee man is behind bars after he allegedly caught a teenager in bed with his wife and stabbed him to death.

The investigation apparently began earlier this month when Sequatchie County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Sequatchie-Erlanger Hospital, where a woman was being treated for multiple stab wounds, according to The Sequatchie Post.

The woman’s stab wounds were determined to be non-life-threatening, and deputies “determined the victim received the wounds at a residence in the Fredonia community,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies went to the home and found two more men, one dead and the other with minor wounds. The Post did not provide any names associated with the incident, but WTVC later said that the dead man was 18-year-old Billy Floyd and that 41-year-old Jonathan Belk had been charged with his murder.

Floyd’s body was found stuffed into a trash can, the station said. Belk reportedly killed the teen when he came home and found him in bed with his wife, who was the woman with the stab wounds at the hospital. A police report said deputies arrived at the home to find Belk standing in the doorway, covered in blood.

An affidavit says that deputies asked Belk if he was worried about anything besides the charges he was facing, and he replied, “I am worried about my relationship with my wife due to the fact that I offed him.”

Brandi Smartt told WTVC that she was Floyd’s godmother and that he’d been in a sexual relationship with Belk’s wife since he was 15. Sequatchie County Sheriff Bill Phillips said investigators were looking into those allegations.

Belk has been charged with criminal homicide, and Phillips said he anticipates more charges will be filed. Investigators have not found the knife used in the murder.

Sequatchie County is on the Cumberland Plateau north of Chattanooga.
