4 Charged in Rape of LSU Student Later Struck and Killed by Car

A 17-year-old accused of raping intoxicated LSU sophomore Madison Brooks prior to her death last month has been booked in the East Baton Rouge adult jail, while a nearby bar that reportedly served minors alcohol before the incident has been shut down.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, 17-year-old Desmond Carter is facing first and third-degree rape charges.  The other defendants in the case — 18-year-old Kaivon Washington, 28-year-old Everette Lee, and 18-year-old Casen Carver are also facing charges but have not yet been indicted.

Washington is also accused of rape, while Lee and Carver are facing accessory to rape charges. Carter, who will face charges as an adult, was booked into jail on Tuesday, NBC 6 reports.

Brooks, 19,  had been out drinking on January 15 and asked the four for a ride home because she was too drunk and couldn’t find her friends. The Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control said Friday that Reggie’s Bar in Tigerland, where the teens had been drinking before the incident, was shut down following what happened after the parties left the establishment.

Washington and Carter reportedly raped Brooks in the back seat of the car after they left, with Lee and Carver in the front seat, police allege. Then, when Brooks was unable to tell them where she lived, they dropped her off in a subdivision. She was hit by a car driven by a ride-share driver while trying to walk home.

She died at a hospital.

An autopsy revealed that Brooks’ blood alcohol level was nearly four times the legal limit, and all four of the suspects had been drinking at the bar. Only the 28-year-old Lee, however, was drinking legally, as the drinking age is 21.

Defense attorneys have claimed no crime took place because Brooks had sex with Washington and Carter consensually.
