A Texas mother is facing charges after she allegedly locked her 12-year-old daughter out of their apartment, forcing the girl to sleep on a bench within the complex.

The girl went to a Houston Police Department substation to report the incident shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday. She told officers her mother kicked her out of the apartment Saturday after they had an argument about one of her friends coming inside to hang out, per police. The girl tried to get back inside several times but her mother refused to unlock the door, according to cops. The child ended up sleeping on a bench at the apartment complex before waking up in the morning and going to the police substation.
