Suspect Robs Bank to Buy Guns, Drives to Kentucky to Kill ‘Common-Law Wife’

Kentucky police have arrested a man they say broke into a Springfield home and shot two women, one fatally, early Friday morning.

Police say Roosevelt Davis III, 23, told police after his arrest he stole money from a bank in Wisconsin on Christmas Day and used that money to buy two guys and camouflage, WLKY reported. Then he drove to Kentucky, intending to kill the two women.

Police were called to the scene shortly after midnight and found Kadesha Burch, 31, dead and a 52-year-old woman wounded. She was taken to a hospital in Lexington.

Davis reportedly told police he forced his way into the home and fired about 10 shots into the victims.

The arrest citation says that Burch is Davis’s common-law wife, although neither Kentucky nor Wisconsin recognizes thos arrangements.

Davis is charged with murder and attempted murder with domestic violence enhancements.

Milwaukee Police said that a suspect in the Wednesday afternoon bank burglary was arrested in Kentucky but did not name the suspect since charges had not been filed, WKBT reported.

According to WLKY, a Mercer County, Kentucky, grand jury indicted Burch on a second degree assault charge for shooting Davis in October. She was arrested and bailed out of jail on Monday.
