Police have released the name of the man arrested for the deaths of a couple in an Atlanta apartment.
Neil Russell, 44, the son of deceased woman Henrietta Russell, was taken into custody and transported to the Fulton County jail, according to WSB.
As previously reported by CrimeOnline, the deceased couple was identified as Marvin Spencer, 80, and Henrietta Russell, 40, according to a woman who identified herself to WSB as Spencer’s daughter.
Spencer’s daughter requested a welfare check after being unable to reach her father or Russell. Police arrived at the apartment on Atlanta’s West End around 3 p.m. on Friday and encountered Russell’s son, who threatened to harm himself before retreating inside the apartment and barricading himself.
Police brought in negotiators and eventually persuaded Neil Russell to come out after an hours-long standoff. He was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted cuts.
Once police entered the apartment, they found the deceased couple and a woman who had been held hostage at knifepoint. Police said she was unrelated to anyone in the apartment and had met the suspect earlier in the day at a nearby transit station.
Spencer and Russell were pronounced dead at the scene, but police could not determine how long the couple had been dead.
The suspect is expected to face murder charges, as well as assault charges for the woman he held hostage, once he is released from the hospital.
