A California man has been arrested after impersonating a soldier and going on a wild crime rampage where he burgled a gun, stole a man’s truck at gunpoint, robbed cases of beer and then fired at deputies after crashing the stolen vehicle. Jason Benson Dingler, 43, was eventually detained by officers after being shot in an orchard following a high speed car chase in Grayson, near the city of Newman, on Friday afternoon.

His day of chaos was revealed by cops with a detailed video sequence, starting with surveillance footage showing him kicking down the door of a home in Keyes and stealing a gun from the property.

Claiming to be a soldier he then used the stolen firearm to hold a homeowner at gun point at another address and demand he hand over the keys to his truck, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Ring doorbell footage shows the terrified man raising his hands above his head and calmly complying with Dingler’s orders.

‘Call the cops and you’re dead,’ Dingler (pictured) can be heard saying on the footage after demanding the truck keys. Six minutes after the carjacking, an employee of the One Stop Market in Grayson reported an armed man stole alcohol and fled.

Footage shows Dingler picking up two large cases of beer, walking out of the shop and placing them in a truck in the parking lot. A California Highway Patrol officer spotted Dingler driving the stolen truck moving southbound on Highway 33 at 5:44 p.m. An officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but Dingler sped away.

A high speed chase involving multiple deputies then ensued down Highway 33 for 11 miles, reaching speeds of 85 mph. Air101, the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, helped monitor the Dingler’s whereabouts and aerial footage taken showed the moment Dingler’s vehicle sideswiped another car and careened off into an orchard at the side of the road.

Still unwilling to yield footage shows Dingler running into the orchard and taking shots at deputies advancing on foot. At one point he was seen dropping onto his belly to fire again at deputies.

Deputies taking cover behind their vehicles called on a loudspeaker for Dingler to put his hands up and were met with gunfire from the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office. Their patrol vehicle was hit four times, the sheriff’s office said.

Eventually, at 6:26pm two deputies fired at him, striking him once but he refused to surrender. Deputies continued their advance and apprehended the suspect 20 minutes later. They immediately began rendering medical aid until he could be transported to a hospital by an ambulance crew.
