The man who allegedly decapitated his own grandmother in California and ditched her head at a nearby creek has pleaded guilty to her murder, court records say.

Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez, 24, faces 26 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole, The Press Democrat reported. The plea deal occurred after prosecutors and defense attorneys emerged from an hourlong closed-door meeting prior to a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, the newspaper reported. Family members wiped away tears as Aroyo-Lopez entered the guilty plea. He’s slated to be sentenced on June 27.
