GRAPHIC: Severed Head Found in Woman’s Freezer During Welfare Check

Dismembered remains found in a New York apartment on Monday possibly belong to a man who vanished last year, according to reports.

Police were performing a welfare check at the Brooklyn residence when they reportedly found multiple unidentified remains — including a severed head. Sources told the New York Post that the resident, Heather Stines, 45, claimed her husband killed a drug dealer in September and stuffed his dismembered body in a freezer that was taped shut.

“We have a head. We have some limbs,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said. “As of right now, it seems like we have the whole body.”

Sources told the news outlet that Stines tried to stop police from looking in the freezer. Sources said a woman, presumably Stines, was taken into custody at the apartment because she had several open warrants for larceny.

Stines allegedly identified the missing man from a photograph and confirmed he had a tattoo that matched one on the remains. According to the New York Post, residents said Stines occasionally let the missing man sleep in the apartment. They also alleged Stines would not let people near her kitchen — specifically the fridge.

“She let me in her apartment but never the kitchen. She never let the super in her kitchen, only the bathroom,” a neighbor told the news outlet.

Reports indicated that Stines’ husband Stines’ has been jailed in Virginia since September after he tried to cash a fraudulent check. He has not been charged in connection with the man’s death.

According to the New York Post, Stines is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and has not been criminally charged. The medical examiner is investigating the man’s cause of death.
