Selena’s Killer — Up for Parole — Says Singer Is Partly to Blame for Own Murder

The Texas woman who killed Selena in 1995 allegedly believes the singer was partially responsible for her own death.

My San Antonio reported that Yolanda Saldívar, 64, is up for parole on March 30. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles will review her case, determine whether she should be released, and the conditions of her release.

Saldívar was the president of Selena’s fan club. She shot Selena after she confronted her about embezzling funds.

However, Saldívar’s relatives told The New York Post that Saldívar believes her actions were a response to Selena escalating the situation.

“She says that [Selena] came at her really aggressively,” a family member said. “She was so thrown off with how forceful Selena was being; everything happened so fast. If Selena had confronted her differently, this never would have happened.”

Despite this, the relative also said Saldívar had taken responsibility for killing Selena.

Saldívar was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 30 years. She is housed at the Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit in Gainesville.

The New York Post reported that the state parole board began reviewing her case in October. The board will hold a hearing at the end of this month and will hand down their ruling regarding Saldívar’s release.
