A kidnapping ended with the arrest of a convicted Texas felon following a dangerous chase Friday morning.
WFAA reports that police from White Settlement and Westworth Village, Texas, responded to a 911 call from a woman who said she had been kidnapped. The victim escaped from the van where she was being held and made her way inside a Walmart to call the authorities.
The victim alerted the police about a white van with Wisconsin license plates.
As officers arrived at the shopping center, they saw the white van driving away. The van was then spotted at a traffic light on Highway 183 by White Settlement police. When the police activated their lights and sirens, the van sped away, leading to a chase, according to Fox 4.
The suspect, Reginald Jameson, 52, crashed into multiple vehicles at the intersection of Camp Bowie Boulevard and Alta Mere Drive in Fort Worth after running through two red lights.
According to Fox 4, the chase did not end with the crash. Jameson took off running, with police in pursuit.
“That didn’t stop him, of course, because he doesn’t care what he’s doing. He’s trying to get away. He gets out of the van after the crash and starts running on foot,” said White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook. “He ran through some restaurants, crossed back over Camp Bowie Boulevard, and then tried to enter another business by scaling a fence.”
Officers caught up with Jameson, tased him, placed him in handcuffs, and took him into custody.
Jameson was charged with kidnapping, strangulation, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot, and failure to stop and render aid. He also had a felony parole violation for domestic abuse out of Wisconsin.
The woman who was kidnapped reported that she was taken against her will on Sunday. Chief Cook stated that the woman seemed to be okay after all she went through.
The occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash did not appear to be seriously injured.
Jameson was booked into the Tarrant County Jail.
