College Instructor Found Dead in Lake Had Air in Lungs, Cops Reveal as Search for Missing Fiancé Continues

Georgia officials attempted to search a lake for a missing teacher on Thursday, where a woman was found dead weeks earlier.

WSB-TV reported that the search continues for Gary Jones, who was last seen boating with his fiancée, Joycelyn Wilson, on Lake Oconee on February 8. Wilson’s body was found floating in the lake a day after the boat was found unattended.

Jones remains unaccounted for. Robert Pickering, with the Emergency Dive Response Team, told WSB-TV that winds were hindering their search.

“With these wind conditions, the boats are bouncing around, makes it very dangerous for the searchers to be out here doing that,” he said, noting that dead trees are also complicating the search.

Earlier this month, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills revealed that Wilson’s death is not being treated as a simple drowning. He said that Wilson’s body was found floating because she had air in her lungs.

Pickering said that divers are expected to search the lake this weekend. A DNR spokesperson told WSB-TV that the case remains active, though there are no significant developments at this time.
