‘Sandlot’s’ Scotty Smalls Actor Arrested for Smashing Neighbor’s Jeep Window With Dumbbell

Former child actor Tom Guiry, best known as Scotty Smalls in the classic movie “The Sandlot,” was arrested earlier this month after he was seen in surveillance video hurling a 35-pound dumbbell into the windshield of a South Carolina neighbor’s Jeep and then later ringing his doorbell while brandishing a knife.

Guiry, 43, was charged with third degree assault and battery and malicious injury to personal property on June 2 after he reportedly admitted to police what he did, WBTW reported. He was released the next day on a $1,000 bond.

Guiry’s appearance in “The Sandlot” in 1993, when he was 12, was his first acting appearance. He has since appeared in such movies as “Lassie,” “Black Hawk Down,” “Mystic River,” “The Revenant,” and the 2005 sequel, “The Sandlot 2.” He has also had several television appearances.

Horry County Police said they were called to the scene by the neighbor and encountered Guiry in the middle of the street, a police report says. As they spoke with him, the neighbor shouted that “really, my window’s been shattered.”

“That sucks, man,” Guiry replied. “I’ll pay you back. I’m sorry. I’m gonna get you back.”

Police said Guiry admitted smashing the windshield, the report said, according to WMBF.

TMZ obtained video from the neighbor’s doorbell camera, which shows a shirtless Guiry throwing the dumbbell into the passenger side windshield of the Jeep then stalking back across the street, presumably to his home. Later, he is seen ringing the doorbell and brandishing what appears to be a long kitchen knife at the front door.

Police did not say what prompted Guiry’s actions.
