A Texas man running from police officers across a Houston freeway was fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday morning.

As Click2Houston reports, on Saturday, just after 8:30 a.m., officers from the Houston Police Department noticed an altercation between two drivers on the IH-10 feeder road near Lockwood Drive.

While investigating the situation, one of the drivers got into an altercation with the police. The driver then took off running from the officers onto the freeway.

“The male got out of the car; there was some type of physical confrontation with the officers,” Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu said, according to ABC 13.

The man entered the freeway, where one vehicle was able to avoid hitting him by swerving. He made it across three lanes but was struck just as he reached the center dividing wall of the fourth lane.

“This is heartbreaking for everybody. It’s very traumatic. We send our condolences and prayers,” Cantu said.

Police are still reviewing body cam footage and are requesting the public’s assistance by asking for any videos that may have been taken at the scene.

The police have not released the suspect’s name at this time.

The story is developing. Check back for updates.
