Texas investigators believe remains found last week at a Beaumont home could be that of Kimberly Langwell, who vanished 25 years ago.
According to Beaumont Enterprise, police searched a property in the 1600 block of Lindbergh Drive on Thursday, for possible evidence relating to Langwell’s disappearance.
After discovering the remains under the driveway, a warrant was issued Thursday evening for Langwell’s ex-boyfriend, Terry Rose, 67, on murder charges.
“On Thursday, June 13, 2024, Tim Miller, Founder and Executive Director of Texas EquuSearch was called by the Beaumont Police Department to assist in the active search for Kimberly Langwell based on new information,” search and recovery non-profit agency Texas EquuSearch posted on Facebook.
“Upon arrival and initial assessment, Tim requested the assistance of Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. (GPRS). Within minutes, an area of interest was determined and ultimately, human remains were found in the noted location.”
FOX 4 Beaumont reports that Rose allegedly told someone that he killed Langwell on July 9, 1999, and then buried her on his property.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Langwell was last seen on July 10, 1999, after finishing a shift at a local chemical plant. Police later found her car abandoned at the Phelan Shopping Center on Dowlen Road. Police said a phone was left inside her car, but her purse and keys were unaccounted for.
After work, Langwell was to meet her new boyfriend, Ken Weatherford, and her teen daughter for dinner. She clocked out at 5:00 p.m. and called her daughter fifteen minutes later, but never arrived to dinner.
During the call, she mentioned she needed to stop by Rose’s house but would be home by 6:30 p.m., according to Oxygen.
Beaumont Police Assistant Chief Jason Plunkett said it could take days before they are officially able to confirm the remains, but believes they are of Langwell.
“The important thing today is that we want to express our hopes that this brings some sense of justice to the Langwell family,” Plunkett said. “Beaumont Police Department, the District Attorney’s office and our partners will continue to work this case until there is a complete resolution.”
Rose remains behind bars on a $1 million bond amount at the Jefferson County jail.
