Rapper Coolio Died From Accidental Fentanyl Overdose: Coroner

“Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper Coolio died last year in California from an accidental fentanyl overdose, a medical examiner concluded on Thursday.

Coolio, 59, whose real name is Artis Ivey Jr., died in September. The medical examiner’s record lists Coolio’s cause of death as the “effects of fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine.”

Coolio’s death was deemed accidental and the medical examiner also listed contributing factors — including recent PCP use, asthma, and cardiomyopathy.

Coolio was pronounced dead after he was found unresponsive at a friend’s home in Los Angeles. Despite his cause of death, law enforcement sources told TMZ that no drugs or drug paraphernalia were found at the scene.

The family’s spokesperson told TMZ that Coolio had severe asthma and smoked cigarettes for decades. The spokesperson said these two factors heavily contributed to his death.
