The Chatham County Police Department issued a statement Monday, providing an update on the search for missing Georgia toddler, Quinton Simon.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Quinton’s mother, Leilani Simon, reported him missing shortly after 9:30 a.m. on October 5, telling police that her boyfriend, Daniel Youngkin, saw him around 6 a.m. at their Savannah home.
Simon reportedly told investigators she believed the boy’s biological father took him, but police say the father’s alibi checks out.
After two weeks of searching, police announced they believed Quinton’s body would be found in that landfill outside Savannah and that his mother was the sole suspect in his death.
Since then, law enforcement officials have been scouring the landfill in hopes of finding Quinton, but have so far been unsuccessful.
“Today we begin another week of searching the landfill for Quinton Simon,” Chatham County police said on Facebook. The photos and videos we’ve shared over the last four weeks show you what a massive – yet, painstaking – effort this has been for every single person involved.
“We have asked the teams on this search to endure the physical, mental and emotional burden of reporting to this landfill day after day – knowing that the chances of finding Quinton’s remains are low.

“And, we are proud of every member of the Chatham County Police Department, FBI, GBI, Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources who has performed this duty with unmatched professionalism.
“At this point, we do not have a scheduled end date for the landfill search. Meanwhile, our investigative team continues working diligently to uncover and collect every piece of evidence relevant in this case.”
