Leilani and Quinton Simon collage

On Thursday, a former babysitter testified in the murder trial of Leilani Simon, the Savannah mother charged with the 2022 killing of her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon.

Due to the 17-year-old babysitter’s age, court cameras were turned off during her testimony, WJCL reports.

“He would open the (bedroom) door when it was cracked,” the babysitter said about Quinton. “And he’d come in there and he’ll love on you. …He’ll run to you, open his arms and just throw himself on you and give you a kiss on the cheek.”

”She said that she did not love him at all.”

She recalled another incident in which Quinton fell down crying after the defendant shoved him, and a pool incident in which the defendant pushed the toddler into water after she couldn’t secure a float on him.

Quinton, who couldn’t swim, went underwater and came up coughing and crying.

“She said she really didn’t care because if [his older brother] could learn to swim then he needed to be as smart [as him],” she said.

The babysitter also recounted a time when Simon backhanded Quinton for being on a road unattended and another time, refused to help the toddler down the stairs.

Quinton ended up falling down the stairs and rolling.

The babysitter, under cross-examination, admitted that despite witnessing abuse, she never contacted police for help.

The trial continues. Check back for updates.
