Proceeds From Imminent Sale of Alex Murdaugh’s ‘Moselle’ Will Mostly Pay Legal Fees and Civil Claims

Alex Murdaugh’s Moselle property, where he was convicted of gunning down his wife and son in 2021, is about to be sold for $3.7 million.

According to WHNS, which spoke with an attorney working on the sale, the deal is expected to be finalized next week and most of the money is earmarked to pay out settlements in a number of civil lawsuits filed against family members.

The Crosby Land Company is handling the sale of the 1,700-acre hunting property and told the station earlier this week it was under contract. In addition to the land, the property includes  a 5,275 sq. ft. home, a guest cottage, an equipment shed, fish pond, a shooting range, and the dog kennels where the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh took place.

Court documents split up the money thusly:

  • $290,000 to Alex Murdaugh’s brother, John Marvin Murdaugh, to pay the estate’s legal fees
  • $6,511.52 to Laura Jones, a creditor with a claim against the estate
  • $530,000 to Buster Murdaugh
  • $100,000 to Joseph McCulloch, an attorney representing Connor Cook in a suit against Buster Murdaugh, related to Paul Murdaugh’s boat crash that killed Mallory Beach in 2019
  • $275,000 to co-receivers for a common fund that will eventually go to more victims
  • $25,000 to Palmetto State Bank, which has a claim against the estate
  • The rest to Mark Tinsley, the attorney representing two other boat crash victims, Morgan Doughty and Miley Altman, as well as Beach’s estate.
