Detectives are investigating a possible murder suicide after two people were found dead in a small Leicestershire village.

Police were called to an address in Smeeton Road, Saddington, at 11.27am yesterday by East Midlands Ambulance Service following the report that a man and woman were dead inside the property.

Leicestershire Police said that an investigation has been launched to understand the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the events leading up to the incident.

At this stage police have said that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Officers have said that the families of the man and woman are being supported by officers.

The property remained cordoned off this morning while further inquiries are taking place. 

Detective Inspector David Greenhalgh, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit major crime team, said: ‘Our investigation is very much ongoing as detectives are working to understand what happened and lead to the deaths of these two people.

‘I would like to reassure the wider public that at this time we do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident.

‘Families of the two deceased are being supported by officers at this very difficult time.’

Saddington is a small village in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, which is home to just over 300 people.
