Police Chief’s Felon Son Found Dead Days After Shooting 2 Cops During Traffic Stop

The son of a Tennessee police chief was found dead on Tuesday, days after he allegedly shot two officers and fled.

John Drake Jr., 38, was wanted for Saturday’s non-fatal shooting of officers Ashely Boleyjack and Gregory Kern outside a Nashville Dollar General. Drake Jr. — who is the son of Nashville police chief John Drake — was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Nashville, according to The Tennessean.

Metro Nashville police spokesperson Don Aaron told the news outlet a chase ensued after Drake Jr. stole a car at gunpoint. The car eventually crashed, leading the suspect to flee to a shed behind a home.

“While the officers were surrounding the residence to contain the shed, a gunshot was heard and it appears he has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Aaron also said.

Chief Drake said he has been estranged from his son for years. Drake Jr., a felon with a lengthy criminal history, allegedly shot the two officers after they ran his plates and learned his car was stolen, according to WSMV.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating Drake Jr.’s death. An autopsy will be performed.
