Philly Man Arrested for Decade-Old Murder and Rape

Authorities in Pennsylvania have arrested a Philadelphia man for a murder and rape during a home invasion in 2013.

Thomas Delgado, 50, was arraigned on Wednesday on charges of criminal homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, and other related charges, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

The DA’s office said that Delgado was one of two men who broke into Joseph Canazaro’s Hilltown Township home at about 10 a.m. on January 18, 2013. They tied up Canazaro, 48, his fiancee, and his 12-year-old son and “ransacked the home, taking guns, money, jewelry, and other items,” and raped Canazaro’s fiancee.

She and the boy managed to escape their restraints, and she called 911. When police arrived, they found Canazaro dead inside his carage from multiple stab wounds.

The killers took Canazaro’s truck, which was later found at the Quakertown Plaza Shopping Center. Evidence taken from the crime scenes — and the rape kit from the sexual assault — were linked back to Delgado.

“It would be wrong to call this a cold case. These detectives have spent more than a decade seeking justice for these victims,” District Attorney Jen Schorn said. “Like they always do, detectives never relented in the pursuit for justice, and now, we are able to announce an arrest.”

Schorn said detectives are still investigating and looking for the second man. Anyone with information should contact Bucks County detectives at 215-348-6354 or the Hilltown Township Police Department at 215-435-6011. Tips can also be left at www.bucksda.org.

Delgado is being held without bail.
