A 73-year-old Pennsylvania woman was found stabbed to death in the middle of a suburban Pittsburgh street late Sunday afternoon.

Her son, a man in his 40s who has not been publicly identified, was taken into custody for the crime. Arnold Police Chief Josh Stanga said he called 911, WPXI reported.

“He did admit to what happened and there was no anger or anything like that. They took him into custody with ease and without incident,” said Stanga.

Police said the suspect was standing next to his mother’s body when police arrived. Charges have not yet been filed.

“We’re going to execute search warrants and we’re going to go into the house and try to figure out what led up to this incident and for this travesty up here,” Stanga said. “It shouldn’t have happened.”

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s office identified the victim was Diana N. Rebold and said she was stabbed multiple times.

Investigators told KDKA that witnesses reported hearing two people arguing before the murder.

“To have something this brutal in this neighborhood, because everyone watches everyone here, I’m just in shock,” another neighbor said. “This is just all so shocking. That’s all. Good Lord, what’s this world coming to?”

“There was apparently arguing from witnesses around the area which then (went) into the street and that’s where they located them both,” Stanga told WTAE.

Other neighbors said it wasn’t the first time Rebold and her son caused a disturbance.

“The other day I’ve seen him out there yelling, but apparently him and his mother got into it and this is what ended up happening,” Charisse Campise  said.

Police are still investigating what led up tothe murder.
