A couple in Kentucky were arrested after they were allegedly found pushing their baby in a stroller that was filled with live maggots and illegal drugs. Tiffany R. McCord and Thomas L. Parker were taken into custody over the weekend and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, records reviewed by Law&Crime show.
In addition to the endangerment charge, McCord is also facing one count each of trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking synthetic drugs, and possession of paraphernalia.
According to a police report obtained by Evansville, Indiana, NBC affiliate WFIE, officers at about 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24, responded to a call about an adult male and an adult female who were described as “suspicious” and were pushing a baby stroller into an abandoned house located near West Arch Street and Pride Avenue, which is about 150 miles southwest of Louisville, Kentucky. The caller reportedly told the dispatcher that the couple appeared to be intoxicated.
Upon arriving at the address, first responders said they located the couple and approached, which is when Parker allegedly took off and ran into the home and away from the officers, leaving McCord to deal with the baby and the police on her own.
Police said they observed several bags that were attached to the baby’s stroller. When speaking to officers, McCord said that none of the bags belonged to her, Evansville CBS and Fox affiliate WEVV reported. She also allegedly told the officers that she had used marijuana one day earlier.
When searching the bags, police reportedly found drug paraphernalia and a plastic bag containing synthetic drugs in the same bag as medication prescribed to the baby. McCord told police that the only items belonging to her were an ashtray, a plastic bag, and a lighter that were inside a diaper bag. She was subsequently placed under arrest.
Officers on the scene then picked the baby up from the stroller and discovered that the child had been sitting atop a pile of living maggots.
Authorities the following day located Parker and took him into custody. He told police that he was the father of the child he’d abandoned the previous day and similarly denied that any of the drugs or other contraband found on the stroller belonged to him, per WEVV. However, he reportedly admitted that he had been asked to clean the baby’s stroller but did not clean the entire thing.
McCord is currently being held in the Hopkins County Jail on bond of $2,500. Parker is being held on bond of $3,500. It was not immediately clear if court dates had been scheduled for the couple.
