A 41-year-old Ohio mother is facing charges after police say she pretended her daughter had cancer and collected

According to the Noble County Sheriff’s Office, police arrested Pamela Reed on January 8, on a felony charge of theft by deception. Police said they were tipped on January 4 that Reed had been collecting money for her daughter’s cancer treatment, although she wasn’t sick.

Following the tip, Sheriff Mackie with the Noble County SO and detectives with Children’s Services initiated an investigation. Evidence uncovered indicated that the child did not have cancer.

The investigation also confirmed that a local organization contributed approximately $8,000 to assist the family with expenses related to cancer treatment.

“The information that was relayed was in reference to a local child that had been publicly portrayed to be fighting cancer,” Noble County SO posted on Facebook.

“Several local organizations had participated in fund raising efforts and had made monetary contributions to help the family offset medical expenses.”

WTRF reports that Noble County Court Judge Jennifer Arnold set Reed’s bond at $50,000.

Meanwhile, investigators continue to seek out anyone who contributed to the fundraiser. If you or anyone you know contributed, contact the Noble County Sheriff’s Office at 740-732-5631.
