An NYU student has admitted to tearing down posters of Israeli hostages – blaming her exploits on ‘misplaced anger’. Yazmeen Deyhimi (pictured), a junior at NYU who once worked for the Anti-Defamation League and a self-acclaimed ‘activist,’ confessed to tearing down the flyers of hostages that were plastered outside NYU’s Tisch Hall on Monday and tossing them into the trash.
A now-viral video of their actions has sparked backlash, with many calling for the university to hold the three perpetrators accountable. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Deyhimi ‘apologized,’ offering a bizarre explanation for the disgraceful act – claiming she was having a rough time finding her place as a ‘biracial brown woman’ during these ‘highly volatile’ times. ‘
I have found it increasingly difficult to know my place as a biracial brown woman, especially during these highly volatile times,’ Deyhimi shared. ‘I have felt more and more frustrated about the time we currently find ourselves in, and that misplaced anger into actions that are not an accurate representation of who I am as a person. In this age of social media and digital footprint, these moments of anger are selfish and self-absorbed, and not reflective of who I am as a person or who my family had raised me to be.’

The NYU junior has claimed to be ‘extremely passionate about fighting racial profiling.’ She and two others were filmed Monday at Tisch Hall in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, stripping clean a wall where students had plastered the faces of some of the hundreds of hostages taken by Hamas during the ongoing Middle East conflict. The now-viral video shows the two women smirking as they hold the crumbled images of young children taken hostage by terrorists after ripping them off the wall.
The pair were filmed by Students Supporting Israel, which is demanding that the perpetrators be expelled. One of Deyhimi’s accomplices was identified as an unnamed freshman at the university who serves as a Muslim Youth Leadership Council Member at Advocates for Youth, according to the New York Post.
The third, a male student who was wearing a dark hoodie, has not yet been identified. The footage, shared Monday night on social media, came as another student from a different private college was hit with hate crime charges for attacking a male, Jewish student with a broomstick.
Maxwell Friedman, 19, who uses female pronouns, was a student at Columbia University until the incident last week. She attacked an unidentified male student as he place posters of the young children taken hostage by Hamas. On arrival, they were told that the victim – identified only by the initials I.A. – was engaged in a dispute that had become physical. According to police, Friedman fractured the male 24-year-old’s finger, and verbally harassed him. Friedman has now been charged with assault and harassment as a hate crime. I.A. spoke with the Columbia Spectator, a student-run paper at the university. He said one hand was bruised and his ring finger on the other hand was broken. In the wake of the altercation, he did not plan to return to campus soon. ‘This is because me being an Israeli these days. Not me because being myself,’ I.A. told the paper. ‘It is because me being an Israeli who is under a certain kind of threat.’
