Sheridan Fogle

New details are emerging in connection with a woman found dead inside the fire pit in the backyard of a South Carolina man’s home.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, on Thursday morning, police in Orangeburg detained Sheridan Fogle, 54, charging him with the murder of 51-year-old Penni Whiteside. She was last seen on May 11, 2022, while living at a home off 1st Avenue South in Myrtle Beach.

During the investigation, witness statements led police to believe the victim was buried in her own backyard under a fire pit. At the time, Fogle had been living with Whiteside.

On June 12, investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence, where they discovered the victim’s remains inside the pit, Shore News reports.

On that day, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety supported police with arresting Fogle at his current residence. The investigation, however, began back on May 11, 2022.

“On June 12 in the 600 block of 1st Avenue in Myrtle Beach the remains of Penni Whiteside were located buried in the yard outside of her home,” the Horry County Coroner’s office said. “Ms. Whiteside was last seen in the spring of 2022 — she was 51 years old at that time. This death is being investigated by MBPD as a homicide.”

Fogle appeared in court on Friday, where a judge denied bond, according to ABC 15. The judge also confirmed that Fogle’s case would proceed to the general sessions court, with hearings scheduled for October 25 and December 13.

Police stated that no further details will be disclosed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
