‘He was innocent’: Dad Shakes Life Out of Preemie Son at Hospital

A North Carolina man awaiting trial for killing his 3-week-old son in the hospital last year allegedly told police that he may have shaken him too hard.

WRAL reported Gunner Bliss died on October 16, 10 days after he suffered head trauma while in the NICU unit at WakeMed Hospital. The victim’s mother allegedly witnessed the father Noah Bliss, 22, abuse their son, who was a preemie along with their twin daughter.

On October 6, a WakeMed police officer reportedly gave Gunner Bliss, wrapped in a blanket, to a nurse who noticed he was blue. At the time, the family was living at WakeMed’s Heart Center Inn, which houses families while their loved ones receive treatment downstairs.

Gunner Bliss’ mother was very upset upon hearing about her son’s mortal injuries. A warrant alleged that Noah Bliss was emotionless.

WRAL reported that Noah Bliss called Johnston County police and claimed he may have been rocking his son too hard. He allegedly then got in his car and informed his wife he was going to Florida because he did not want to go to jail for murder.

Noah Bliss is charged with first-degree murder. A trial date has not been set.
