Alaynah Rappuhn appears in court after being charged with attempted murder (Bibb County Sheriff’s Office).
A Georgia woman gave birth to a baby boy without telling her boyfriend, who allegedly found the baby in a trash bag outside their home. Now she’s being charged with attempted murder.
Alaynah Rappuhn, 22, was arrested on April 1, a day after she went to the emergency room at Piedmont Macon Hospital for “excessive bleeding.” According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Rappuhn’s boyfriend noticed her condition on the afternoon of March 31 and brought her to the hospital for treatment. Before they left the home, she left a trash bag on the back porch. When the boyfriend returned to the home to get some of Rappuhn’s belongings, he noticed the trash bag on the back porch — then he noticed that the bag was moving.
Police said that when he opened up the bag, he found a newborn baby boy “wrapped in towels.” The baby was then brought to the hospital, where police said he is alive but in critical condition.
According to the media release from the sheriff’s office, Rappuhn did not tell her boyfriend that she was pregnant or that she had given birth. Police said that she gave birth at around 4:30 a.m. on March 31, “then wrapped the child in towels and placed him inside a trash bag.”
Rappuhn did not tell medical staff at the hospital that she had given birth when she arrived there on March 31.
Police responded to the emergency room and placed Rappuhn in custody after she was released from the hospital on April 1. She was charged with attempted murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. After a court appearance, Rappuhn was ordered to be held at Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond.
