Police in Texas are looking into the death of a mother of four discovered hanging at a marina last month, in what investigators are describing as suspicious.
According to the League City Police Department, 30-year-old Giselle Salazar found deceased on May 31, hanging from a rope at the Wharf Marina, in the 700 block of Davis Road in League City.
One of Salazar’s arms was reportedly “in an upright position with nothing holding it up.” Investigators now believe that before she was placed at the dock, she died somewhere else and developed rigor mortis, which caused her arm to stiffen.
“I just want everyone to know my sister didn’t do this to herself. She didn’t commit suicide,” the victim’s sister, Esperanza Alegria, told ABC 13. “We want whoever is responsible, who did this to my sister, we want them to get charged for what they did to her.”
Lt. Eric Cox of the League City Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division said Salazar, who lived on a yacht at the marina with boyfriend, James Hart, was found half immersed in water.
“Her arm was found suspended up in the air, and there was nothing holding it there. So, we believe she probably passed away with her arm extended up above her head like that, and then rigor mortis had set in prior to her being placed like that,” Cox said.
It will take several weeks to determine the cause of the death, the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office told ABC 13.
Click2Houston reports that two people of interest have been identified in the case, but so far, there have been no arrests. Hart reportedly told ABC 13 that both of his security cameras had “inexplicable issues” before her death.
Giselle moved to League City in the fall of 2022. Family members said left an abusive relationship in Colorado, where she lived for the eights years before moving to Texas.
“Detectives are requesting anyone with information regarding the case, who wishes to remain anonymous, to contact Galveston County Crime Stoppers at 409-763-TIPS (8477),” LCPD said on Facebook. “Information leading to an arrest or conviction could result in a cash reward of up to $5,000.”
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up by loved ones to help cover her funeral expenses and to help with the care of her children, ages, 10, 8, and 6. Salazar’s oldest child reportedly lives with their father.
