Murder suspect and repeat would-be escapee Kaitlin Armstrong is facing an additional charge after her recent attempt to run from the law, and now prosecutors want to see surveillance footage and her medical records.
Armstrong, 35, is charged with murder in the May 2022 shooting death of Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson, an up-and-coming cyclist who was killed while staying at a friend’s house in Austin, Texas. Wilson, who was in Texas for a bike race, had previously been romantically involved with Armstrong’s long-term boyfriend, Colin Strickland.
On Wednesday, she tried to escape police custody after a doctor’s appointment, but, as Law&Crime previously reported, her attempt at freedom was short-lived — Armstrong was caught after 10 minutes.
“As [Armstrong] and two corrections officers were exiting the medical building after the appointment, Armstrong ran,” a Travis County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said in an email. “The officers pursued her on foot for approximately 10 minutes without ever losing sight of her.”
Cellphone video appears to show Armstrong, wearing a black-and-white prison uniform, running at the top of a small embankment before scaling a fence. A law enforcement official is seen chasing Armstrong.

Court records show Armstrong was charged Friday with felony escape causing bodily injury.
Prosecutors reportedly want access to Armstrong’s medical records and surveillance footage from corrections officers from the night before she made her run for freedom, Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported, citing court documents.
A subpoena filed Wednesday reportedly requests Armstrong’s medical records from St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, a few blocks from the location of her attempted escape, the station reported. Prosecutors are asking for records from Tuesday when she was apparently admitted as a patient, and surveillance footage from overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday morning from the medical center.
The state is also reportedly seeking Armstrong’s jail, disciplinary, mental health and medical records dating back to mid-September from the sheriff’s office, KXAN reported.
Armstrong made her way to Costa Rica via New Jersey in the days after Wilson’s death in May 2022. She was eventually apprehended the following month. Authorities found her at a hostel on a beach in Costa Rica, having dyed her hair and undergone cosmetic surgery.
Her trial is set to start on Oct. 30.
