Murder Suspect Caught After Falling Through Home's Ceiling During Search

A Tennessee man wanted for suspected murder was captured by U.S. marshals Monday after he crashed through the ceiling from a home’s attic where he was hiding, ending a monthslong manhunt, authorities said.

Deario Wilkerson, 20, was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon after the officers tracked him down to the Memphis property, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a release.

Wilkerson was not injured in the fall and was taken into custody without further incident, authorities said.

Wilkerson was the last of three people wanted for the April 2 shooting death of Troy Cunningham.

Cunningham, 27, was fatally shot in the back of his head while running away from three people who witnesses said were trying to steal his gun outside an apartment complex, according to local station Fox 13 Memphis.

A passerby also sustained a nonfatal gunshot wound to the shoulder after a car she was driving in with another woman was hit by the suspects’ gunfire, the Shelby County district attorney’s office previously said.

Jarius Hibbler, who’s accused of robbing Cunningham and then shooting him as he ran away, was arrested in April and charged with first-degree murder. TaMarius Barron, 19, was arrested in May for first-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Both men were ordered held on separate $3 million bonds.

Wilkerson, who did not have an attorney representing him listed in online records, has a court date set for Thursday. He is being held on a $6 million bond, according to the Shelby County Jail.
