Bodycam footage out of Kent County, Michigan, shows a mother emotionally complaining to an investigator about being treated “like we’re animals.”

That is Olivia Elizabeth Miller, who recently pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to one year behind bars (with 246 days served) for killing her son, Asher Johnson, 8 months. The baby died after she left him in a bathtub for about 20 minutes.

Footage of the partially redacted interview, dated Nov. 22, 2023, can seen below. Please be warned that it includes distressing details about the child’s death.

“We were literally having the best time at daycare today,” Miller said in the video.

Authorities have said she gave varying stories about what happened when her son died. Cellphone data showed that she was constantly using her phone, with only an 18-second break, in the 21 minutes before calling 911. About four minutes before the call, she sent her father a text about Asher taking a nap, authorities reportedly said.
