Authorities in North Carolina are investigating 4-year-old twin boys were discovered dead inside a home.

The boys’ mother, Genevieve Ellen Springer, is in custody on two counts of first-degree murder, according to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said in a press release they received call around 10 a.m. Saturday to a home on Gooseberry Road in Murphy, a town in far west North Carolina. The caller was the boys’ father, who is separated from Springer and was picking the kids up from her home as part of their custody agreement.
