A former model and real estate agent will be released from prison in just a month after she successfully appealed her jail sentence for a drug-fuelled crime spree.

Monique Agostino appeared in the NSW District Court via audiovisual link on Monday after being jailed for nine months over a bizarre string of crimes including drug possession and larceny.

The 28-year-old was forced to swap designer clothes for prison greens in May when she was sentenced to at least five months behind bars after pleading guilty to a shopping list of crimes.

The court heard she was motivated to commit the crimes for financial gain after she lost her driver’s licence after driving with drugs in her system and driving without a valid licence.

Without a licence, the former model could no longer work as a real estate agent in Sydney’s affluent suburbs and she turned her mind to crime.

In her original sentencing, her Legal Aid lawyer told the court Agostino was ‘an intelligent individual who has used her abilities for criminal, instead of constructive, reasons’.

She was arrested in possession of cannabis, stolen NSW registration plates, and another driver’s licence which she intended to use for fraud.

At the time of her arrest, the former Instagram influencer admitted she was taking illegal drugs on a weekly basis.

She was jailed for a minimum of five months for what her lawyer accepted was a ‘determined thumbing of (her) nose at the law’ after it was revealed police had issued 15 warrants for her arrest over four years.

However, the former Sydney real estate agent scored a victory in court on Monday when Judge Mark Williams found the sentence was too severe.

He upheld her appeal and reduced her non-parole period, so Agostino will be able to walk out of jail one month earlier.

She will serve the remaining five months of her sentence in the community while under supervision.

The legal win comes after a turbulent few years for the former model, who endured a drastic fall from grace precipitated by drug use.

In 2018, she acted as the wheelwoman for a group of adolescent boys as they committed a string of masked burglaries in Sydney’s affluent north shore and also participated in the break-ins.

The former Instagram model was also busted with ice and a restricted prescription medication when she was arrested.

She was jailed for at least six months in one of the country’s toughest women’s prisons for the raft of offences.

Years later, she is back behind bars again for what she hopes will be the last time.
