A Michigan man who allegedly abducted his ex-girlfriend’s toddler daughter last week reportedly killed her with a cord from a phone charger.
WDIV reported that the pink cord was found on Wynter Cole Smith’s body, which was discovered in a Detroit alley last Wednesday. Authorities located part of the broken charger in 2-year-old’s mother’s car — which suspect Rashad Trice, 26, allegedly stole after assaulting the toddler’s mother and taking the girl.
Trice was arrested hours after the reported kidnapping, which occurred three days before Smith’s body was found.
According to NBC, the cord was specifically found around Smith’s neck. A final report regarding her death is pending.
“(Smith’s) cause of death appeared to be strangulation with a pink cellphone charging cord that was recovered with the body,” a charging document stated, per WDIV.
The Detroit News previously reported that cell phone data led them to Detroit’s east side. However, it remains unclear why they eventually zeroed in near the airport where Smith’s body was discovered.

Currently, Trice is charged with sexually abusing and assaulting Smith’s mother. On the federal level, he is charged with kidnapping a minor and kidnapping resulting in death.
