Mom’s Boyfriend Elbows Tot Girl in Face After She Throws His Cell Phone

An Illinois toddler is in critical condition with a fractured skull and a brain bleed after her mother’s boyfriend elbowed her in the face when she threw his cell phone at him.

The little girl’s mother was home at the time but did not witness the incident, Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Dan Jungles told the Herald-News, nor did 21-year-old Jordan Padilla tell her what happened.

A 911 call reported the 2-year-old girl “unconscious but breathing” just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, the Will County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies arrived on the scene as medics were taking the child to a local hospital. She was later transferred to a Chicago-area hospital in critical condition.

Deputies said Padilla first provided statements to medics “that were not consistent with how the child received the observed bruising to her face” and later “made incriminating statements” to investigators.

Padilla struck the child “because he was angry at her for throwing his cellphone at him,” Jungles told the Herald-News.

“Padilla also indicated that he never informed the mother what had happened either,” he said.

Padilla has been charged with battery, domestic battery, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery of a child.

The little girl is reportedly in critical but stable condition in the Chicago hospital.
