Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a pedestrian was left seriously injured after being ploughed into by an 84-year-old driver with no driving licence.

Josephine Dolphin was captured on camera driving straight into the woman, who was in clear view and had been crossing the road, in December last year.

The victim was sent flying though the air before being left lying motionless on the ground.

A court heard the pensioner failed to see the victim as she crossed Picton Street, in Leek, Staffordshire, prior to the collision on December 13.

The woman suffered a broken nose, fractured jaw and bruising after being struck by Dolphin’s Vauxhall Astra as she turned right into the street where she lives.

Dolphin was hauled before JPs at North Staffordshire Justice Centre last week after it also emerged her licence had expired which invalidated her insurance.

She pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving, driving without insurance and and driving without a licence.

Dolphin was handed a three year year driving ban and a court bill of £1,589, which includes £350 of compensation for the victim.

Prosecutor Suzanne Swindail said: ‘A silver Vauxhall Astra, driven by the defendant, drove up Westwood Street and turned into Picton Street and collided directly with the victim.

‘The woman had a broken nose, a fracture to the jaw, and a large bruise to her right thigh.’

The victim is understood to have received counselling following the incident.

Alan Dawson, mitigating, told the court: ‘That road is a one-way street. She was turning right into a one-way street.

‘When she saw the vehicle pass she turned into the road. She was unfortunate that the woman was crossing the road at that time.

‘She gave a full account to the police and accepted her responsibility.’

He added: ‘It was a momentary lapse of concentration. Since the accident the vehicle has been sold. She never wants to drive again.’

Dolphin’s driving licence expired in 2021.
