A 35-year-old mother in Georgia was killed just days before Mother’s Day after she was allegedly mauled to death by several dogs near her home. Courtney Williams, whose two children were also attacked by the animals, was found dead on Thursday afternoon, authorities announced.
According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, deputies with the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office at about 4:45 p.m. on May 9 responded to a complaint regarding “multiple minors being attacked by a dog” outside of an address in the 2000 block of Webster Road in Quitman, Georgia. Quitman is located about 230 miles south of Atlanta.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders said they “encountered several aggressive dogs on the property.”
“It was determined that an individual had already taken several minors to a local hospital,” the GBI release states. “Deputies subsequently located Williams’ body in the yard of the home.”
The agency said that an autopsy will be performed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of Williams’ death.
According to a report from Albany, Georgia, NBC and ABC affiliate WALB, the fatal attack took place at a bus stop located just behind Brooks County Middle School.
