A Detroit mom has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 8-year-old daughter, who was shot to death by the girl’s 10-year-old brother.
Officials said the boy found an unsecured and loaded handgun shortly before noon on Tuesday, while he and his sister were home alone. He fired the gun and shot the girl, according to WDIV.
The girl was rushed to a nearby firehouse — investigators didn’t say by whom — and emergency medical personnel picked her up there to take her to a hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
Erica Sade Graham, 31, was also charged with two counts of second-degree child abuse and three felony firearms violations. She was arraigned Thursday afternoon and ordered held on a $150,000 bond. She’ll have to wear a GPS monitor and remain at home if she’s released.

“How many children have to die because of an unsecured weapon?” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy asked. “Why is it so hard to secure a gun when you know that children either live or visit your home frequently? Why are the deaths of these children acceptable, because surely if preventing these deaths was a priority, the political will to fix this would be at an all-time high?”
Her next court date is on September 30.
