New surveillance footage apparently shows a California woman’s vehicle the night she and her 8-month-old daughter vanished in July.
Though initial reports indicated Whisper Owen, 36, and Sandra McCarthy were last seen driving from Fresno on July 15, new video possibly shows Owen’s car in Waterford that night.
KCRA reported that the vehicle, which had a broken headlight, was 50 miles from where police claimed the pair was last seen.
Fresno County police said they believe Owen and McCarthy were traveling home in Elk Grove and never arrived. Earlier in the day, Owen took McCarthy to a doctor’s appointment and visited family.
Amid their disappearance, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to KCRA that Owen has an open warrant linked to a 2020 child abuse case. Owen pleaded guilty to the charge in 2021, but failed to complete a work project, which led to the warrant.
Fresno County police said they did not believe foul play was involved in this case.
Owen was described as standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, and having brown hair and blue eyes. McCarthy is 1 foot, 10 inches tall, weighs 17 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes.
Owen drives a 2006 silver Chevrolet Trailblazer with license plates reading 9LKH008.
Anyone with information regarding Owen and McCarthy’s whereabouts should call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
